New blog posts by Paul Dick

24/10/2013

Paul Dick is the latest baller to offer his thoughts to the world on the Basketball Ireland site. Apart from being a bit miffed that he didn't put his thoughts up on this site first, we're stil pleased to promote the thoughts of Paul.

(For those who don't know him, Paul was one of the best known schools stars in Ireland during his time with St Malachy’s College, winning multiple All-Ireland titles before departing to play basketball in the United States. Returned now from his college career in Franklin Pierce University, Paul has hit the ground running in his first year playing Premier League basketball, averaging 18 points and 3.6 assists per game.")

Hi All,

First off thanks for having me on the player’s blogs. I think it’s a great idea to give an insight into team and players and possible brag a bit discreetly! It’s great to be back home in Ireland. Getting to play in front of friends and family for the first time in years is a whole new thrill again. For a few years now I was told that the superleague (now Premier League) wasn’t doing great but I think that this year could be one to turn that around with the effort being put in on and off the court.

Season's going pretty good for our Star team at the moment. Since we let Neptune sneak back and rob us in the fourth, we are 2-1 right now and hoping to improve that this weekend at home vs. Moycullen. There is a great buzz around the team as we get a taste for winning while under our new coach. Spell check doesn’t correct his name so we’ll just call him coach. Playing under a professional coach is a great experience, new details of the game that we have never focused on before become crucial in every trip up the floor. Along with our assistant coaches Adrian Fulton and Darren O Neill, we have a great staff who are always helping us along as a team and individuals. Like the coaching staff our team has really bought into what we are trying to achieve this year. The guys with fulltime jobs and families have made impressive commitments to show up each day.

The highlight of the season will start up in two weeks time when we start our 3 week battle with Killester, as we play 3 weekends in a row (2 cup, 1 league). I’ve already heard the trash talking starting from certain people but we’re not worried about it, we’ll just get in the gym and prepare to do what needs done.
